A quieter alternative to the main Cocoa Beach strip, Lori Wilson Park is a 35-acre oceanfront park with nature trails, picnic areas, and direct beach access. Free parking, clean restrooms, and a relaxed atmosphere make it a solid choice for families or anyone who wants a low-key afternoon before boarding. The park sits right on the Atlantic with no hotels or commercial development blocking the beach. It is exactly what a Florida beach park should be.

The closest beach to the cruise terminals at just 1.8 miles. Jetty Park is a 35-acre park with soft sand, a fishing pier, restrooms, showers, picnic areas, and even an RV campground. The pier is one of the best spots in the area to watch cruise ships, cargo vessels, and the occasional rocket launch. If you arrive the evening before your cruise, this is the place to sit with a cooler and watch the inlet. There is something genuinely surreal about relaxing on a beach and watching the same ship you’ll board in the morning come into port.

About 15 minutes inland from the port, Cocoa Village is a charming historic district with independent shops, art galleries, cafes, and restaurants spread across a walkable few blocks along the Indian River. It has a very different feel from the beach strip, quieter, more local, with the kind of character that chain-heavy beach towns tend to lack. Good for an afternoon of browsing if you’ve already done the beach and want something different before boarding. A peaceful park in Cape Canaveral built around a warm-water outflow canal where Florida manatees gather, particularly from November through March when ocean temperatures drop. Walking paths, picnic areas, and observation decks give you close views of the manatees in their natural habitat. It is free, quiet, and a genuinely relaxing stop after a travel day. A solid option for the afternoon before embarkation if you want something low-key that the whole family can enjoy.

One of the top-rated zoos in the Southeast, Brevard Zoo is about 20 minutes from Port Canaveral in Melbourne. Over 900 animals across 75 acres, with an emphasis on interactive experiences — kayaking through the zoo, feeding giraffes, and zip-lining over the African savanna exhibit. It is a legitimate full-day destination and one of the best family stops on the Space Coast. Well worth the drive if you have time before or after your cruise.

The world’s largest surf shop and a true Cocoa Beach landmark since 1959. Open 24 hours a day, Ron Jon is 52,000 square feet of surfboards, beachwear, and souvenirs. It is a mandatory stop for any visitor to the Space Coast, featuring a massive indoor waterfall and surf museum elements throughout the store. Even if you aren’t a surfer, the scale of the shop is an attraction in itself.
